Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers. Last night at Beacon theatre. Broke our hearts with their true passion for music and creative integrity.

Back seat of the car. Bumper to bumper traffic. Most hated music blaring. Hungry. And all I wanted was get a sandwich, the speedy train, and be back in the city in two hours. The result - anxious, edgy, annoyed, and overall not pleasant. Yet there was my boyfriend in the front seat, living what to him I know is his version of personal hell, totally calm. ?????? Unbelievable.
The &lsquodrive&rsquo continued, and about an hour later the roads cleared up, our friend driving changed to a rock station, and soon we got home. My boyfriend grabbed me in the elevator and said, &ldquoI was calm because I made a decision to take the car, and thus sat with it, all of it.&rdquo How yogic.
Asana, ie the physical postures the western-yogis are addicted to, literally means seat. Each asana, or position, is a seat we put our muscles, tendons, ligaments, and entire gross tangible body in, in aims of toning and shaping it for our physical good. At the same time, each asana is a seat we put our mind, thoughts, and entire intangible body in, in aims of focusing, directing, and strengthening it for our mental good.
This duel affect of yoga asana, ie a yoga class, is what makes yoga change you, and feel so changed. In each asana you have an opportunity to take a seat, see what arises, and adjust yourself inside and out. My boyfriend took a seat of tranquility and smiles. I took one of impatience and angst like a child. Next time, I&rsquoll take his seat, and until then, work on it on my mat.
